About Bone Marrow Cancer Trust
For more than 34 years, the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust has provided patients and whānau from across New Zealand with accommodation to support them while undergoing life-saving medical treatment in Christchurch and investing $1.4m in bone marrow cancer research and education.
Our flagship service Rānui, is the South Island’s largest provider of patient accommodation and the only facility supporting patients of all ages and treatment types. Located close to Christchurch Hospital, Rānui offers 81 self-contained apartments across Rānui House and the recently opened Rānui Apartments.
Each year, we provide thousands of nights of accommodation, removing barriers to treatment and ensuring families can stay together when it matters most. Research shows that when families stay connected, patient wellbeing and outcomes improve.
With the support of our community and hospital partners, BMCT established New Zealand’s first Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in 1991, opened Rānui House in 1993, and expanded capacity with Rānui Apartments in 2024.
Together, we ensure no family faces cancer alone while away from home.
